Senior Ski & Toboggan (S&T):
The Sr. S&T program is one of two steps a patroller must obtain if they want to advance from being a basic patroller to senior Patroller. Candidates are evaluated in three areas; Free Skiing ability, Toboggan Handling skills, and Toboggan Ski Skills. The Sr. EMM program is designed to hone a patroller’s problem management skills, develop confidence in problem solving and leadership skills. As well as fine tune how a patroller reacts at an accident. A student patroller is a person between the ages of 15 and 18, and/or who is currently enrolled in high school, which is registered in the National Ski Patrol System (NSP) and actively ski patrolling at an area mountain. Once a student patroller reaches the age of 18 years old and/or has graduated from high school, he/she may register with the NSP as a regular patroller. The certified program is a test of your patrolling capabilities and knowledge base. It is a unique opportunity to learn from others, to broaden your experience and sharpen your skills. Through a series of specific steps a Certified Candidate is reviewed and qualified to participate in the annual Certified Test. The instructor development program is a required course for NSP patrollers that have an interest in becoming an Instructor in the NSP organization. As a patroller you can become an instructor in Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), Skiing & Toboggan (S&T), Skier Enhancement, Toboggan Instruction, or Mountain Travel and Rescue (MTR). Instructor Development can also be taken as a Senior Elective for those patrollers pursuing becoming a senior patroller. The Avalanche & MTR program is designed to provide patrollers with hands-on skills they need to move and live in the back country during extreme winter conditions. As well as to be an asset to a search and/or rescue team, including possible overnight operations. Field practice includes practice in navigation, travel, survival, basic search and/or rescue exercises, and an overnight campout. The nordic program prepares the patroller for backcountry skiing throughout the country. Instruction consists of lectures, frequent hands-on exercises, and practical emergency scenarios. This program is presented by the Nordic Advisor, Robert Bentley - More information Alumni:
The Alumni program is a membership category for Patrollers or Auxiliaries, with a minimum of one year’s service, who no longer wishes to continue their Active Status with the National Ski Patrol System, but wants to keep informed and stay involved.
